Generative plugins: build custom Figma plugins by prompting the agent
Generative plugins are plugins built by prompting the Figma agent (distinct from classic, hand-coded plugins) across three types: creating content, modifying layers, and file utilities. They can be published to the Figma Community or internally to an organization, and their code can be viewed in-app. This capability was introduced earlier (at Config) but had no dedicated registry row in our state; captured now from the Sept 1 product changelog update plus extensive Help Center documentation (the old combined "quick start guide to generative plugins and shaders" was split into a dedicated generative-plugins guide and a shaders guide, with new publish/review/manage/access pages). Confidence is medium because the original ship date predates our evidence.
Figma MCP server can read and write generative plugin and shader source code
New MCP server tools (list_generative_plugins, get_generative_plugin, create_generative_plugin, update_generative_plugin, list_shaders, get_shader, create_shader, update_shader, list_file_shaders) let an agent pull the source behind a generative plugin or shader, edit it in an external editor, and push updates back for Figma to rebuild, version, and deploy. Previously the MCP server offered only read-only shader access (get_shader_effect, get_shader_fill, list_shader_effects, list_shader_fills — now deprecated in favor of the consolidated tools) and no generative-plugin tools at all. Writing requires loading the figma-shaders or figma-generative-plugins skill first. Corroborates the Sept 1 product changelog's "access to the code" claim.
Figma agent chat pops out into its own desktop window
In the Figma desktop app, a Pop out Agents panel control at the top of the sidebar opens the agent chat in a separate window, so a running agent thread can sit alongside the canvas instead of inside the sidebar. The hover-for-thread-status tip on the Agents sidebar entry was dropped in the same edit.
Figma adds an Eraser tool to vector edit mode
Figma shipped an Eraser tool inside vector edit mode. It is selected from the secondary toolbar or with Shift E, its weight and shape are configured in the right sidebar, and dragging over a vector path or shape removes that area, adding new editable vector points along the erased edge. Erasing does not split the object into separate layers even when the cut goes all the way across; splitting remains a separate Split vector command in Figma Draw.
Figma MCP supports enterprise-managed auth through Okta Cross App Access
A new help article documents centralising Figma MCP access in Okta with Cross App Access (XAA): instead of each member running the OAuth login flow and re-authorising the Figma connector, access is brokered by Okta so a member signs in once and Claude can work across approved MCP servers without further prompts. Organization and Enterprise plans, organization admins only, Anthropic models only, and it requires SAML SSO with Okta.
Figma agent enters closed beta in FigJam
The beta features article adds "Agent in FigJam and Figma Slides", available on paid plans with can-edit access to the file and rolling out gradually to accepted waitlist participants. In FigJam the agent captures team inputs, visualizes complex systems and architecture, and turns a brainstorm into actionable next steps. The previously listed "Figma agent across the Figma platform" early-access line is removed in the same diff.
Figma agent enters closed beta in Figma Slides
The same closed beta covers Figma Slides: the agent turns a FigJam board into slides for a product review and helps present and align on what to build. Available on paid plans with can-edit access, rolling out to accepted waitlist participants. Recorded separately from the FigJam instance because either can ship or regress without the other.
Figma admins can mark resources as recommended for an org or workspace
Organization and Workspace admins can now choose which resources - skills, templates, libraries and Make kits - are recommended to their organization or workspace. Recommended resources show a checkmark and a "Recommended by [organization or workspace admin]" tooltip, and are managed from admin > Resources. Corroborated by the organization-management help article, which gains a whole section on it the same day.
